ChatGPT account settings allow you to customize the overall application.
Click on your profile icon, then click on “Settings” to enter the settings menu options
Theme: Allows you to select the appearance of the interface, typically choosing between light, dark, or system settings (which match the theme to your device’s system theme).
Always show code when using data analyst: When toggled on, this setting ensures that any code generated or used by a data analyst feature within the application is always visible to the user.
Language: This option lets you choose the language in which the application operates. The image shows it set to "Auto-detect," meaning the language will automatically adjust based on the computer language.
Archived chats: Provides a way to manage stored conversations. The "Manage" button would take you to an interface where you can restore or delete specific archived chats.
Archive all chats: A button that allows you to archive all past conversations at once.
Delete all chats: A red button indicating that clicking it will delete all stored conversations or chats within the application.
Clicking on “Custom Instructions” will bring the options to customize instructions for ChatGPT chats.
Custom instructions enable you to guide ChatGPT on how to respond according to your preferences. By providing these instructions, you can share specific details, guidelines, or context that you’d like ChatGPT to consider in future interactions. These instructions are applied to all new conversations, helping tailor the AI’s behavior and responses to better meet your needs. Custom instructions are available on all plans and can be used across Web, iOS, and Android platforms.
You can modify or remove your custom instructions at any time. Changes will apply to future conversations.
Your custom instructions will not be visible to those accessing your conversations through shared links.
When using third-party plug-ins, relevant information from your custom instructions may be shared with the plug-in developers. Only use trusted plug-ins and avoid including any sensitive information you do not wish to share with third-party developers.
Important: Data from your custom instructions may be used to enhance model performance, helping the model learn to better adapt its responses to your preferences without going too far.
How formal or casual should ChatGPT be?
Should the tone vary based on the context (e.g., formal for professional settings and casual for personal topics)?
Should the language be conversational or technical, especially when discussing complex topics?
Are there specific phrases or expressions that should be avoided or preferred to match your tone?
How long or short should responses generally be?
Should responses prioritize conciseness, or is detailed explanation preferred?
Would you like summaries first, followed by more in-depth information if requested?
Should the response length vary depending on the type of query (e.g., short for quick facts, longer for explanations)?
How do you want to be addressed?
Should ChatGPT use a formal salutation (e.g., Mr./Ms./Dr.) or just your first name?
Would you prefer a friendly greeting or a direct start to the response?
Should ChatGPT acknowledge past conversations or context about your preferences?
Should ChatGPT have opinions on topics or remain neutral?
Should ChatGPT provide insights or recommendations, or strictly present facts without any subjective input?
How should ChatGPT handle controversial topics—should it avoid taking sides or provide a balanced view?
Are there specific areas where you value the AI’s perspective, such as suggestions, creative ideas, or problem-solving approaches?
These points can help refine the AI's behavior to align more closely with your expectations and communication style.
As you chat with ChatGPT, ChatGPT keeps learning about you and your activities. This memory will start to affect how ChatGPT responds to new chats over time. The more chats you do with ChatGPT, it will learn more and try to respond based on your previous chats. If you are chatting with ChatGPT about various topics, you may want to check here from time to time and delete some of the information that you don’t want ChatGPT to remember for future chats.
You can also Clear ChatGPT’s memory. This will clear all items it remembers.
This setting is used when ChatGPT reads or talks to you.
‘Improve the model for everyone’ this option is by default turned on for free and pro accounts. When this is turned on, OpenAI is using all the data that you are using within your chat, including the data that you type and any files you upload.
If you upload or use any other copyrighted materials, that information may be used for training the data model in the future.
As you share chat documents with others, ChatGPT keeps a list of all shared chats. When you don’t want to share one, you can hit the Trash icon and delete the chat.
If you’re going to delete your account or you want to know how much data ChatGPT has, you could request for a data export.
If you request data export, it will be sent to your email.
You only need to worry about this, if you’re going to create GPTs and publish them Publicly.
